4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Is ministry and ministering to others our first love or is Jesus our first love? Most people will respond immediately and say “JESUS is my first love!” But wait a second... really think about this. Is He really? Ministering to others and ministry itself can be like a drug—something you really need to survive, get away from reality, or feel special. Is your identity in HIM or is it in what you do FOR Him? What about your schedule? Is it so busy with ministry and life that you don't make the time to pursue HIM?
For me, I have to really fight to keep Jesus first in my heart. I have to make sure that I don't allow the clutter of life or ministry to detract from the time I spend with Him. It is very possible that you are spending more time with yourself rather than the Lord. Have you ever been with someone but you weren't really there because your mind was somewhere else? What I am talking about is improving and enhancing your quality time with the Lord Jesus. By doing so, you enrich your life and ultimately improve your ministry. But it is an overflow of your relationship with God, and like Him, you pour out of your spirit what will bless others through this vital connection with HIM.
Make it your aim this week to not only set a time with Him but also to improve in the quality of time you are spending with Him.
